FocusWing is a focus timer app for teens. It tracks actual focused time by pausing when the user leaves the app. Teens use it for free to build better focus habits. Parents can optionally pay to view their teen's earned focus minutes—but only what the teen chooses to share.
How is this different from parental control apps?
Parental control apps block, monitor, and surveil. We don't. FocusWing is a tool for teens first, not a leash for parents. It empowers teens to build self-discipline while giving parents just enough insight to reduce nagging. No blocking, no app monitoring, no browsing history. Ever.
Is FocusWing really free for teens?

What exactly can I see as a parent?
You see only earned focus minutes: daily totals, weekly summaries, and streaks. You do NOT see which apps they used, websites visited, messages, or activity. This is intentional—we built a trust tool, not surveillance software.
What if my teen refuses to share their progress with me?
That's their right. FocusWing is teen-controlled. Many teens start using it independently and choose to share once they build confidence. You cannot force the connection—and that's a feature, not a bug. It builds genuine trust.
How much does parent access cost?

Can I force my teen to use FocusWing?
You can require them to install it, but you can't force genuine focus. The app tracks real attention—if they don't want to focus, the timer won't run. We've found teens engage more when they feel in control, not forced.
Can I force my teen to give me access?
No. They initiate the connection from their app. You cannot request it. This is by design—it's about trust, not control.
What if my teen just leaves the app open while watching TikTok?
They could, but sessions start with a stated intention ("finish math homework"), and most teens engage honestly when there's no external pressure. The goal is building self-discipline, not forced compliance. Many parents find the honor system works surprisingly well.
Is there a way to see if they're cheating the system?
No, and that's intentional. If you're looking for surveillance features, FocusWing isn't for you. Our approach is trust-based. Teens who want to game the system will find a way; those ready to build habits will use it honestly.

Is FocusWing really free? Do I need a credit card?
Yes, it's 100% free. No credit card, no payment info, no trial period. Just download from the App Store or Google Play and start using it. No catches.
What can my parents actually see if I connect them?
Only total minutes you earned. Not which apps you used, not what you worked on, not when you were online. Just a number. That's it.
Do I have to connect my parents or share anything?
Absolutely not. It's 100% your choice. Most teens share progress because it reduces nagging, but you control the connection and can disconnect anytime.
Is this spyware? Will it monitor my phone?
No. FocusWing is the opposite of spyware. We don't monitor your activity, read your messages, or track your location. We're a timer that pauses when you leave the app. The app literally cannot monitor your phone.
What if I need to check a text or answer a call during a session?
No problem. The timer pauses automatically when you leave the app. Answer your text, then come back and resume. No penalties, no notifications to your parents.
Can my parents force me to share my progress?
No. There's no "parent override" feature. You initiate the connection and control what (if anything) they see. If they want that level of control, they need a different app.
Will this drain my battery?
Nope. It uses way less battery than social media apps—typically less than 2% per hour. You can leave it running in the background without issues.
Technical Questions
What platforms does FocusWing support?
iOS (iPhone 6s and newer, iOS 14+) and Android (Android 8.0+). We support phones and tablets on both platforms.
How does FocusWing detect when someone leaves the app?
When a focus session is active, the app monitors app-switching events. If FocusWing is no longer the active app, the timer pauses. When you return, you can resume the same session.
Does FocusWing work offline?
Yes. You can start and complete focus sessions without an internet connection. Data syncs when you reconnect.
How is my data protected?
All data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We don't sell or share personal information. Teens control their data and can delete their account anytime. Parents can only see what's explicitly shared.
What happens if I delete the app?
Your data is deleted from our servers within 30 days. If you reinstall, you'll need to start fresh. Parent connections are broken when a teen account is deleted.
